Must Have Reference for Juliana Jewelry

If you don't already know, DeLizza and Elster jewelry is among the most sought after costume jewelry around. Their use of unfoiled stones, art glass and other specialty rhinestones in fantastic multi-layered designs has made Juliana jewelry a standout. This beautiful jewelry is also extraordinarily well made, so it has held up well over the years.

Since DeLizza and Elster jewelry was never signed, it's always been difficult for the average collector to identify. Fortunately, Musetti's book contains a very detailed section on how to identify Juliana jewelry. She also uses lots of photos so that you can clearly understand exactly what she is describing to help with identification.

The book contains over 450 beautiful color photographs of DeLizza and Elster Juliana jewelry. My only criticism of the book is that some of the photos are a bit repetitious. On the other hand, I was also very pleased that Musetti included photographs of pieces that were attributed to and signed by other makers, such as Weiss, that were actually made by DeLizza and Elster.

I have a few pieces of jewelry in my collection that I had long suspected were Juliana, and I was delighted that my assumptions could actually be confirmed with photographic evidence from this book.

This is an absolute must have book for both the fledgling as well as experienced collector of costume jewelry.

Mouth-Watering Photos, But.....

Mouth-watering photos of glam Juliana parures, but not extremely useful for the collector of the odd brooch or set of earrings found at yard sales and second-hand shops.

There are few details regarding identifying characteristics, and I don't believe there is any first-hand information from either Mr. DeLizza or Mr. Elster in the text.

Savvy jewelry collectors easily recognize the D & E cat's eye and Easter egg gems but there are many other pieces which might not be so quickly identified; I was hoping for further information on these unpretentious yet lovely finds.

Outstanding Jewelry Book!

This book is truly amazing! The photographs are outstanding, not to mention the wonderful information provided on Juliana jewelry. It was wonderful to see a book that displayed this jewelry so beautifully. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who loves the gorgeous glitzy jewelry made by DeLizza & Elster. Thank you so much, Ms. Musetti, this will be one of my most treasured jewelry books that I know I will use over and over again!

Italian: A Self-Teaching Guide: An Excellent Overview

This book is packed with value for the money. There are many books out there that are much more expensive, but are not as coherently put together. I am an older student who last studied Italian in the 1950's. I decided to sign up for an adult education course in Italian this fall as an Advanced Beginner. I bought this book to get me up to speed. I have not been disappointed. I find the explanations of irregular verbs and nouns to be easy to follow, and the exercises are actually fun to do, with all the answers in the back. You have to work, but it is worth it. I find I love Italian as much as I did when I was young.

Straight No-Nonsense Approach That Works

I am currently using this book as a student in an adult beginner Italian course with great results. The book immediately plunges into some of the more difficult concepts which normally would perplex the English speaking student with great ease. Each page consists of sidebar type boxes where verbs are conjugated, vocabulary lists abound, and grammar rules are succinctly laid out. Each chapter begins with new vocabulary revolving around a specific event like "Buying a Ticket in a Train Station" or "A Family Birthday". Dialogues using the vocabulary words in typical uncomplicated sentences accompany each topic and a variety of exercises follow along with detailed grammer explanations. All exercise answers are provided in the back of the book.

Unlike some of the more colorful workbook type language guides, this book omits the cutsy pictures and cartoons and concentrates on what's really important: getting the rules of the language down by engaging in the variety of exercises included. If there is one thing that would add to the value of this text, it would be the inclusion of an audio CD with recitations of the dialogue and some practice exericises to train the ear and the tongue to the cadences of the Italian language.

Bear in mind, that I am using this book in conjunction with having an instructor who, of course, corrects pronunciation and comes up with imaginative composition assignments to augment a course outline that closely follows the format of the book. As with any new language, an instructor to correct misconceptions and misunderstanding, I feel, is paramount to ultimate understanding and prevents the student from creating a language that only he or she understands.

The book introduces basics of the Italian language in a logical and rational way, giving the student a good grounding in the grammar and a reasonable vocabulary basis. After going through the book, one should be able to read an Italian newspaper with the aid of a dictionary. (Or without one if you already know another Latin language)

I have wanted to be able to sell over the phone for a long time but never had much luck at all. This was just the book I needed to give me some extra selling help. Using this proven script I have been able to greatly increase my sales. I definitely recommend this book!

A must read sales script book.

This book was definitely a good read. The 3 most important skills that stood out the most to me was the 3 A’s from this book, which is attitude, acknowledge and move on, and assume the sale. Some people think sales scripts are stupid but not knowing how to answer people can result into a lost sale. More importantly what I got from this book is to listen and be patient with your client. Listening will result to sales conversion when you can be patient and fulfill your client’s need.

Not What the Title Suggests

This book has many typos. I suppose if one is interested in hard and fast telemarketing this is a good primer. If one wants a book that fits a more contemporary view of telephone sales, try Smart Calling. The book seems slapped together and produced for a quick buck. The author has other books much the same. It is short, and all of the information in it is amply available online for free via Google. The one point made in the book worth listening to is the importance of taking time to pause while speaking to clients/customers. The book does not especially discuss 5 Sales Scripts ... it's the same hard sell message over and again. I had thought that the book would provide pointers on techniques for preparing/modifying scripts. Disappointing.

"Between 1971 and 1973 I audited all the courses medical students take in their first two years at the University of Minnesota. I was amazed at the amount of physics I found in these courses and how little of it is discussed in the general physics course.

I found a great discrepancy between the physics in some papers in the biological research literature and what I knew to be the level of understanding of most biology majors or premed students who have taken a year of physics. A must-read for physicists interested in biology

Intermediate Physics for Medicine and Biology (Biological and Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering) is now in its fourth edition, and gets better every time. This is the ideal starting place for biologists who need to use physics to explain something biological or physiological, or physicists who want to apply quantitative physics theories or techniques to biological phenomena or delve into medical or biological physics. The derivations and illustrations are clear and useful, and the book provides detailed explanations rather than just decreeing the applicable equation for a particular phenomenon. The rich set of problems makes it an ideal textbook for physics or biomedical engineering or quantitative biology; the breadth of the material makes it a wonderful reference book.

As a recent graduate of Medical Physics now doing a postdoc with MD's, I find myself reaching for some section of it time and time again; both to help me understand their perspective as well as to better communicate mine. A Great Textbook for Medical Physics

This is an ideal textbook for an introductory level medical physics/biomedical engineering course for juniors and seniors. When I used this textbook to teach an introductory level medical physics class, I found it to be rich in biological and medical materials, and hardly referred my students to other textbooks. It includes most of the derivations that students need to know and plenty of problems for them. The authors have done a great service for the students by explaining required physics concepts in the textbook.

Extensive problems and answers

Hammell puts forth to us that testing code is a rigorous discipline. He explains how to do this in the context of writing Java and using J2EE. The bedrock of his exposition is unit testing. This being Java, he shows how JUnit can be used to configure and run such tests, in a highly automated fashion. Hopefully, you will agree with his contention that indeed integrating JUnit and unit testing into the overall fabric of your development process is easy.

Building on this, he treats the important cases of testing a Java GUI and servlets and JSPs. The basic ideas are easy to grasp. There is a mass of example code that might obscure it, on first glance. But part of your skill set, which you need to develop, is that you should be able to hone down through the source code for the essential implementation of the ideas.

A nice trait of the book is the problem sets. And the lengthy answers to them. Rather unusual in books of these type. Typically, there aren't even any problems furnished. Let alone answers. If you end up using this book, you should avail yourself of the problems, for better learning.

Interesting case study in TDD

This is an interesting book. It takes a case study approach to teaching test driven development on an application to track sports results. It's pretty code heavy, which is something that I don't like about it. But given the topic that is to be expected.

Test Driven Development is a tough topic to teach. I respect APress for publishing a book with a unique design to try address this problem. It's well worth the time because this unique development approach can be very powerful when it's employed properly.

I recommend looking into Test Driven Development if you haven't already. And this is a reasonable place to start if you like to learn by example more than by reading process documentation like the Agile books.

Decent book with good examples. Worth buying

Overall I really liked this book. It has a lot good examples and practical advice on how to use TDD to build a J2EE application. The code I downloaded from the book's web site is nice also because besides the source code for the book you get a full build environment including a set of Ant build files that can be used to easily build and the run the examples. I really liked the chapter on servlet development using TDD since it showed me some tools and techniques that I hadn't seen before.

About the Author
Roger Penrose, one the world's foremost theoretical physicists, has won numerous prizes, including the Albert Einstein Medal, for his fundamental contributions to general relativity and cosmology. He is the bestselling author, with Stephen Hawking, of "The Nature of Space and Time" (Princeton). Penrose's other books include "Cycles of Time: An Extraordinary New View of the Universe" and "The Road to Reality: A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe" (both Vintage). He is the Rouse Ball Professor of Mathematics Emeritus at the University of Oxford and lives in Oxford, England.

Detailed and long but iteresting

Quite detailed papers about various topics related to quantum physics; some of them describe connections with the metaphysical and paranormal phenomena from a scientific standpoint and most include descriptions of relationships with consciousness. There's a lot of mind-blowing stuff in these papers about time and how quantum physics necessarily means there can be future events affecting the present and the past and the observer's role in time perspectives, etc. I certainly did not understand everything but I did read it all and many of the scientific explanations are intriguing. There are conflicting theories and many present redundant views; one very lengthy paper was admittedly quite circuitous and the author kept repeating himself, which could have been edited down to a much shorter version. This book is a collection by numerous authors, who all present numerous references.I would not classify this as light reading and many readers may not enjoy this sort of book. It was obviously written for other than the layperson so be prepared to not understand a lot of this if you are not a not a classical physicist but I don't think you have to understand all the physics completely in order to enjoy the implications of many of the theories. Maybe some of this actually narrows the span between the individual and the cosmos, between the metaphysical and the scientific, between the material and the spiritual. Maybe, if even some of this is true, we might, in fact, be connected to everything else, to something larger than ourselves, and maybe there is somewhere to be found the elusive theory of everything that Einstein and others have quested for for so long.

Interesting but potentially confusing

Adding to the commendable review here, "Detailed and long but interesting", I would note that the terminology in the 30 separate papers is not entirely consistent, which adds to any confusion about the different viewpoints and arguments expressed. It is unfortunate that some final chapter was not assembled by a few of the most prominent authors, including in particular Roger Penrose, to integrate and summarize the principal points of consensus.

This is a really good book which explains a lot about consciousness and quantum physics. I received this book as a gift and it is fascinating. Its divided into different sections on different topics. It begins with two chapters written by Deepak Chopra and his colleagues, and they give a great overview of his philosophy about the spooky world of quantum physics. The chapters that follow are really good and describe how consciousness, the act of observing can change reality, and how consciousness might be linked to the universe; the cosmology of consciousness. The next Section goes into evolution of consciousness and the brain, and there are chapters about cave paintings from the Paleolithic and how the cave paintings represent the constellations and the stars of the universe. Roger Penrose explains how the brain acts like a quantum computer and is plugged into the universe. There are also really interesting chapters which explain how different areas of the brain are linked to different types of consciousness. The really spooky stuff is how time might be a circle where the future can effect the present, through entanglement, where everything is connected. There are several fascinating chapters about paranormal experiences and the connections to multiple universe and parallel universes. The second half of the book is more difficult that the first, but its worth the read. I think, if you want to understanding consciousness, and quantum physics, this is probably the best book out there.
